Fix Third Monitor Sync with Desktop Play Delay

Help! I'm using a third monitor for full-screen playback in Avid, but it's out of sync.

Desktop Play Delay

Yup, that's super annoying. But you're in luck, it can be fixed!

  • With Avid Media Composer open, create a new sequence with lots of cuts. Put in a slate with a clap if you have one. It will help you judge sync.

  • Go to the Settings tab.

  • Either scroll down, or hit the letter "d" to jump to the "d" section.

  • Click on "Desktop Play Delay"

  • Adjust the "Video Sync Delay for Remote Client Milliseconds" and select OK.

  • Play back your sequence and assess sync.

  • Open "Desktop Play Delay" and adjust as necessary.

Helpful Hint: If you're on a TV show or movie, ask your tech team to fix your sync. They're there to help, and you don't need to solve every problem by yourself.

Please note:

  • If your sync is out by more than half a second, then Desktop Play Delay will not be able to make up the difference. It could be a problem with your monitor.

  • If you adjust the "Desktop/Hardware Sync Delay" then it will delay playback in your source and record monitors, which will knock you out of sync with your speakers.
