Best for: Documentary Editors

Application Time (Approximate): April-May

About: "The Karen Schmeer Film Editing Fellowship was created in 2010 to honor the memory of gifted editor Karen Schmeer. Our mission is to cultivate the careers of an inclusive group of documentary editors, associate editors and assistant editors through mentorship to help them grow as artists and build their community. By investing in editors, we affirm and strengthen the critical role editors play in documentary storytelling. The Karen Schmeer Film Editing Fellowship is a year-long group mentorship program for assistant, associate and emerging documentary film editors from historically underrepresented backgrounds and experiences - including those facing discrimination or barriers due to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomics, immigration, disability, age, gender, sexual orientation, and/or gender identity."


Best for: Feature Editors

Application Time (Approximate): March

About: "The Sally Menke Editing Fellowship will support an emerging fiction editor who has served as lead editor for at least one, but no more than four fiction features, and any number of shorts, documentary films, industrial films, or webisodes. Additionally, the ideal candidate is committed to continuing a career in editing, passionate about collaboration and the creative process, and open to exploration and experimentation in the editing room. We hope to find an editor based in either LA or NYC, but the fellowship is open to all editors based in the U.S."


Best for: Assistant Editors Looking for Editing Opportunities

Application Time (Approximate): November

About: "Neither a scholarship nor a grant, the Eric Zumbrunnen Fellowship harnesses the goodwill of American Cinema Editors, Adobe, Avid, Pix, Media Arts Lab and Eric’s friends and colleagues to provide our fellow with state of the art tools, hands-on opportunities, and the wisdom of many of the talented and experienced professionals Eric worked amidst.

We’re looking for someone:

-who is currently working in post-production -who is dedicated to pursuing a career as an editor -who is based in, or planning to relocate to, Los Angeles, California -who is willing to put in their own time for meetings, screenings and mentor-assigned projects "


Best for: Recent Graduates Interested in a Career in Post Production

Application Time (Approximate): June

About: "This program gives an opportunity to talented and highly motivated college graduates who wish to pursue a career in post-production motion picture and TV editorial. The cost to apply is $100 and includes the “Lecture Series” which ALL applicants are invited to attend. "

Description: "Students of film or editing may enter the ACE Student Editing Competition once a year. Applicants must provide the name of the school or university where they are studying and the name of a professor or instructor on the ACE application."

Prizes: The winner receives a special Student Award and publicity in the Hollywood trade papers and each finalist receives a plaque.


Dates: June - July

Description: "Edit Fest is an annual editing competition that provides editors a chance to break through creatively and showcase their craft. Hosted by Filmsupply, the global leader in cinematic footage licensing."
